Chloroplast and mitochondrial RNAs are highly m 6 A-methylated (98‒100% of transcripts in chloroplasts and 86‒90% in mitochondria) with approximately 4‒6 m 6 A sites per transcript [ 18, 27 ]. This may be related to the differential distribution of H3K36me2 and H3K36me3 modifications within the gene body regions in plant genomes, unlike animal genomes.
